ESN – Germany will be the first country where PV+storage will become profitable. Startup Sonnenbattery, which sells PV+batteries software, has sold 1300 units.
Arpa-e launched $30m funds for projects studying solutions for a better integration of PV into the US solar mix, including hybrid (i.e. thermal & electrical) storage solution. According to Arpa-e, PV curtailments could begin in California with only 12% of PV in the electricity mix. It also states that :”A recent analysis finds that a new German program offering up to 660 EUR/kW subsidy for storage tied to PV will not lower battery payback periods enough to induce new investment.”
German utilities are currently considering shutting down unprofitable conventional power plants.
