This week’s “Top 5” includes exciting news from start up obtaining funds and launching plant. There is also news from the French market and yet another signal of the positive mindset of Germans towards the Energiwende.

1. Californian thermal storage start up Terrajoule raised $11.5m in series A funding, including funds from Air Liquid.

2. Wind storage start-up REDT UK, developing a Vanadium redox flow battery, won £3.6m from DECC for R&D. Moixa won £1.5m as well.

3. American start up Ambri, supported among others by Total and Bill Gates, launched its first factory to produce liquid metal batteries. First prototypes will be available in 2014 and commercial products in 2015

4. French Article – Blue Solution, Bolloré storage subsidiary, made a successful entrance into NYSE Euronext stock exchange, gaining 45% on its first day. While losing money, Blue Solution aims at reaching equilibrium in S2 2014.

5. 83% of voters in Berlin’s referendum were in favor of the municipality taking the control of the grid back from private utilities to install more renewable capacity. However, they amount for less than 25% of the potential voters, thus the vote is not valid. This remains a strong signal for local and country politics.
