Energy storage news - March 19th, 2021

This week’s TOP 5 features news about Pacific Green Technologies Group's ambitious objective of 1.1 GW of battery storage assets developed in the UK by 2023, the large DC-coupled solar-plus-storage plant to be installed by Convergent in New York, the remarkable vanadium flow battery project that has been contracted in China's Hubei province, the selection of Wartsila as supplier for two large battery units in Texas, and the award of several solar-plus-storage projects to Enel in Spain.

  1. Pacific Green Technologies has signed an agreement with TUPA Energy to develop a portfolio of 1.1 GW of energy storage projects in the UK.
  2. General Electric will supply a 123 MWh DC-coupled battery system to Convergent Energy for a solar hybrid project in the state of New York.
  3. A 100 MW / 500 MWh vanadium flow battery system will be delivered by VRB Energy for a large solar project in China.
  4. Texas electricity grid will soon be benefiting from two new large battery systems with a total capacity of 200 MW, using Wartsila's energy storage solution.
  5. Enel Green Power has been awarded five solar projects in the Spanish islands Canarias, three of them will incllude an energy storage component.
