At Clean Horizon, we are closely following the evolution of the Spanish energy storage market. The launch of the €700 million FEDER 21–27 subsidy program marks a major milestone in supporting the deployment of storage systems across Spain.

Interested stakeholders have until July 15th, 2025, to submit their applications.This scheme represents a significant opportunity to develop bankable and competitive energy storage projects, contributing to Spain’s energy transition goals.

Evaluation Criteria

Projects will be evaluated based on four key criteria:

1. Economic Criterion (70%) – Lower aid requests result in higher scores.
2. Administrative Feasibility (10%) – Projects that are more advanced in their permitting process will be rewarded. This includes possession of environmental impact assessments, prior administrative authorizations, grid access and connection, and building permits.
3. Socioeconomic Benefits and Positive Externalities (17%) – Emphasis is placed on the wider benefits the project brings to society and the economy.
4. Degree of Innovation and Demonstrative Value (3%) – Innovative and exemplary projects will receive additional recognition.

The maximum aid amount depends on the storage technology employed, whether the project is standalone or hybrid, and the region in which the project is located.

All selected projects must be completed within 36 months of grant approval and no later than December 31st, 2029.
