Storage Index: June 2026 is out!

Clean Horizon delivers the latest snapshot of BESS performance across Europe – clear, concise, and focused on the trends that matter most to developers, investors, and policymakers.

Below is our latest snapshot of regional insights:

Belgium:

After a slight decrease in May, revenue growth is regaining momentum as seasonal growth in the renewable energy sector picks up again. Indeed, solar and wind power generation rebounded to levels higher than those seen in April. As a result, all energy market prices rose, pushing the index’s revenue to 340 k€/MW/year in June, the highest level since July 2025.

Danemark DK1:

In June, the volatility has increased on wholesale market. This changes has also been seen on capacity market (aFRR and mFRR capacity, same for energy). Therefore, this results in positive revenue for BESS asset in the zone compared to last semester.

Danemark DK2:

Just like the DK1 zone, the volatility has increased in DK2 (DA + ID). The revenue for this month increased of 25% for a 2h BESS in DK2.

Estonia:

In June, electricity and ancillary service market prices increased overall. This rise was driven primarily by lower wind generation and a reduced contribution from hydropower across the Baltics. As a result, revenues increased sharply to 322€/MW/year, rising by 84% for the 2-hour index compared to May.
mFRR capacity reservations continued to be the main source of revenue, accounting for 58% of total revenues. The Day-Ahead market revenues remain significant (25% of total revenues) – the average daily Day-Ahead spread also increased significantly (+50% compared to May), reaching around 160€/MWh (1-hour spread).

Finland:

In June, the Finnish index remained stable, with revenues mainly coming from day-ahead operations. Day-ahead spread settled at 81 €/MWh this month, a slight 2.5% decrease from last month. The 2h index reaches 89k€/MW/year this month.

France:

Revenues for June decreased by 13% compared with the previous month, mainly due to lower aFRR and mFRR energy spreads, as well as aFRR reservation prices. Despite this decline, revenues remain quite attractive for a 2-hour BESS operating in France.

Germany:

In June, BESS revenues are stable across all battery durations, with variations between -4% and +7% compared to last month. Prices on FCR and aFRR UP and DOWN capacity markets remain high, with average above 15 EUR/MW/h. Volatility on the day-ahead has also increased, with peak prices above 900 EUR/MWh and minimum prices below -100 EUR/MWh.

Italy:

Revenues in SUD in June 2026 for a 4-hour BESS are for the 3rd month in a row above the 500 k€/MW/y threshold. Thanks to a higher VWAP on Intraday and constant volumes traded on it, the revenues hit 592 k€/MW/y. In NORD, June was less profitable than previous months but remains at a high level with 422 k€/MW/y revenues for a 4-hour BESS mostly split between intraday and mFRR.

Latvia:

In June, electricity and ancillary service market prices continued to strengthen. This was mainly driven by lower wind generation, reduced hydropower output across the Baltics and limited cross-border transmission capacity between Estonia and the Nordic countries. Yearly revenues rose to 443k€/MW/year, marking a 31% increase in the 2-hour index compared to May.
mFRR capacity reservations remained the largest contributor to revenues, accounting for 53% of the total. aFRR capacity reservations also continued to play a significant role, representing 25% of total revenues. This was supported by high aFRR capacity prices, which averaged €12/MW/h over the month.

Lithuania:

In June, electricity and ancillary service market prices increased overall. This rise was driven primarily by lower wind generation, a reduced contribution from hydropower across the Baltics and constrained cross-border transmission capacity between Estonia and the Nordic countries. As a result, revenues increased sharply to 431k€/MW/year, representing a 32% increase for the 2-hour index compared to May.
mFRR capacity reservations continued to be the main source of revenue, accounting for 56% of total revenues. aFRR capacity reservation revenues also remained significant, representing 26% of total revenues. The monthly average aFRR capacity price is kept high at 12€/MW/h.

Poland:

After the huge price spikes in aFRR reservation the last two months, the Polish market went back to more reasonable levels. The day ahead spread still settled at 223 €/MWh on average, while aFRR reservation prices still reached 74 €/MW/h on average. This lead to a 35% decrease on the 2h index, reaching 529 k€/MW/year this month.

Portugal:

Revenues in June slightly decreased, by 3% for a 2-hour BESS and by 4% for a 4-hour BESS compared to the previous month. This is explained by a significant decline in aFRR capacity prices which is compensated by a significant increase in Intraday Continuous prices. Accessible spreads on mFRR energy and aFRR energy also decreased slighty, but increased on Day-Ahead. Overall, revenues in June remain close to the May revenues.

Romania:

In June, the revenues decreaed a bit for a 1-hour and 2-hour battery and remain stable for a 4-hour battery. This is explained by a decreased in aFRR capacity and mFRR capacity prices, compensated by an increase in the day-ahead prices.

Spain:

Revenus for June increased by 18.9% for a 2-hour BESS compared to May. This is mainly driven by an increase in intraday revenues, due to a significant increase in Intraday Continuous prices in June 2026. Accessible spreads on aFRR energy and Day Ahead also increased.

Sweden:

June’s Swedish index stayed at the same levels, reaching 164 k€/MW/year for the 2h battery. Capacity reservation prices decreased a little, while the day-ahead spread got improved by 10%.
